Misplaced Priorities

To the Editor:

Another election day has come and passed and voters from school districts in Northwest Ohio have rejected various property tax levies which would provide additional
operating funds.

At the same time, our state senate just recently spent a good deal of time and effort debating one of the ground-breaking issues of our day: The proper distance between a patron and an exotic dancer when he or she is performing, a problem which likely affects less than one percent of our population and one that I'm sure has kept many of us awake, pondering during sleepless nights.

Perhaps when our "leaders" take care of these crucial items on their agenda, we'll see some attention paid to the issue of a new formula for school funding in Ohio. It's been more
than 10 years since our Supreme Court declared our present funding scheme to be unconstitutional and our tax weary citizens continue to say "no mas" to further property taxes.

This is just a thought, but maybe it is time to make education funding the priority that it should be in Ohio so we can work toward a solution that would alleviate the enormous burden
that presently exists on our property-owning, over-taxed citizenry.

Our children and grandchildren are counting on our elected officials to step forward and provide substantive proposals to fix
this dilemma.
